Portland House, Cape York is an ideal base for exploring the greater Iron Range area.
Portland Roads is rich with history as a safe anchorage for the early exploration of the Cape, gold mining, and the defence of Northern Australia during WW2. Today, it is a launching point for small boats on these pristine, far northern areas of the Great Barrier Reef closeby.
Build your adventure as you explore the adjacent Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park rainforest. The natural wonders and endemic species of birdlife make this area so unique.
Iconic Chili Beach is located a short drive away and is a great place for a long walk, beachcombing, or to simply enjoy a picnic lunch with the family.
30+ years of dreaming – life bucket list item ticked! The dream was to see a Green Python in the wild – add species such as Palm Cockatoo, White Lipped Tree Frogs, Frill Necked Lizards, Ulysses Butterfly, Scrub Python, Eclectus Parrot… the list goes on for what a fabulous experience we’ve had! To experience it in the character of Portland House with the kindness of Sheree & Greg – what a treat. Thank you for providing a brilliant home base for us to build our kids connection with nature in the Iron Range!
What a wonderful, relaxing stay. Everything was perfect for both a twitcher, and a non-birder. The couch with the view of the water probably has a permanent dint in the cushion from all of the lazing that was done! Thankyou Sheree & Greg for the fantastic food and great conversation.
Amazing stay, amazing house. Walking in was like going back to my childhood in the 50’s.
Thank you to my sister & brother-in-law who recommended your place to us. Just amazing. We enjoyed the open air of the place and breezes were so nice. Can’t believe this little oasis is so far from anywhere (how lucky are you both). The food was just delicious and the fact you still provided us with a meal when you were both unwell is amazing. Thankyou for our spontaneous lunch. Best wishes for your continued successful business.
How spectacular!!! We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful location with excellent food and great hosts. Thank you.
I am speechless…. Beautiful, amazing, great food and the best hosts. Thank you, Greg & Sheree, your hospitality was unforgettable. I can see why Justan loves it so much up here. Thank you for everything.
Sheree & Greg, thank you so much for a wonderful stay at Portland House and all of your thoughtfulness and generous hospitality. This truly is the dream, being here. Where else could you drink tea on the balcony and watch a Jabiru catch an eel in the bay! Beautiful. And 5 star dining. We hope to come back one day.
Thank you for sharing your ‘little bit of Paradise’. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to return. Last here 2021 when we went to ‘The Tip’. The meal at Out of the Blue Café was delicious. We’ve appreciated the peacefulness of Portland Roads. Thank you, Sheree & Greg, for your hospitality.
Thank you, Sheree & Greg, for a fabulous stay & a relaxing respite from the track.
